Amberley is a quintessential English village tucked away in the scenic West Sussex countryside. Flanked by the stunning South Downs and the peaceful River Arun, Amberley is a harmonious fusion of natural beauty and historical allure.
As we stroll through the village, down the High Street and then into Church street on the right, you will see charming homes, graced with traditional thatched roofs, timeless brickwork, and vibrant flowers that add even more life to this picturesque setting.
We took a brief detour off the main path to showcase Amberley as a tranquil refuge for nature enthusiasts. From the edge of the vast 800-acre Amberley Wild Brooks, bathed in the gentle glow and elongated shadows of the setting sun, it’s clear why this village is so enchanting. The reserve also serves as a winter sanctuary for a variety of birds, adding another layer to Amberley’s appeal.
As we circle back to Hog Lane, this secluded street continues to reveal Amberley’s hidden treasures, amplifying the village’s enchanting allure. Our brief excursion takes us eastward to explore newer additions to this historic village.
While on this less-travelled path, we stumble upon a tranquil park featuring a babbling brook, easily crossed by a quaint, old wooden bridge. Skirting along footpaths at the perimeter of a school field, we returned to the village High Street.
Turning right into Church Street again, we soon arrive at St Michael’s Church, an architectural gem that has endured for over 900 years, remaining a steadfast presence through countless eras.
